St. Peter’s Knitting Ministry began as a 5-week Lenten series “Soup, Scripture and Stitches” in 2005. The group so enjoyed meeting together, that it was decided to meet monthly to continue with our knitting and fellowship.
The brain-child of Sr. Warden Nancy Tiensch, St. Peter’s knitting ministry provides items for the Seamen’s Church Institute, Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, North Porch and other groups serving infants and children, and creates prayer shawls for individuals in need of a warm “hug” and tangible proof of Christ’s love. Innumerable hats and scarves; snuggles; baby blankets, booties and hats; and prayer shawls have been distributed over the last four years.
All are welcome to join the knitters on the first Monday of each month (September through June) at 10:30am in the rectory. If you are unable to join us at that time, you are welcome to knit or crochet at home. All skill levels are welcome – if you would like to learn, there are several willing teachers available. Yarn and patterns are also available for our projects, just let the church office know what you need.
If you know of a charity or group that would benefit from our knitting, please let us know. New projects are always welcome.
